The SommeThree soldiers are sitting in a trench during the battle of the Somme. One is American, the other two are Australian. They share a single cigarette between them, cupping their hands to preserve the ember from the dirt raining down on them.The Somme
Across No-Man's-Land is another group of soldiers. Two Austro-Hungarians and a German. They are leaning against the steel protection plate, relaxing despite the chance of a mortar hitting their position at any time. They have reached that point in the war mentality of just not caring because its better to die happy than worried.

I was told to begin this story with an attention-grabber. There you go. I was born into a world that has no sun. The sunlight was extinguished ten years before I was concieved. We have ways of making plants grow, though. Apparently, before the war, rich women bought these beds that burned their skin darker. They ripped out the lamps in them and hung them in a room full of seedlings. Now we have huge warehouses full of lamps growing food for us.
